This Level 5 Management and Leadership Diploma takes place over a series of 10 modules, each concluding with an online assessment:
Module 1 – Understanding Management and Leadership
The course begins by introducing candidates to the concepts of leadership and management, focusing on their differences, similarities and interdependence. An introduction to SWOT analysis is also included – aka the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats matrix – along with examples of common challenges in a leadership position.
Module 2 – Improving Management and Leadership Performance
Module two focuses heavily on continuous improvement and ongoing professional development in the field of leadership. Candidates consider the value of regularly assessing their performance, establishing objectives for their careers and creating a realistic and achievable personal vision.
Module 3 – Developing a High-Performing Team
The characteristics of the high-performing team are introduced in module three, along with the process of building and maintaining high-performing teams in the workplace. Some of the most important pros and cons of team-based work are examined, along with various everyday team development challenges and the importance of effective coaching.
Module 4 - Motivating Employees
Learners are then introduced to the fine art of motivating employees and maintaining a motivated workplace environment. Several effective motivational tools and strategies are discussed, along with the influence of appropriate incentivisation and the importance of tackling demotivation where detected.
Module 5 - Communication Skills
Candidates are then guided through the process of enhancing their communication skills on a continuous basis in the workplace. The importance of strong communication at the heart of every successful business is discussed, along with the true meaning of effective listening and how to overcome a variety of barriers to effective workplace communication.
Module 6 - Managing Meetings and Giving Feedback
Module six outlines the process of organizing and chairing meetings, along with how to collect and present constructive feedback. Learners explore the various functions of regular and periodic meetings in the workplace, along with the basics of conducting an effective and objective employee performance evaluation.
Module 7 - Managing Change
The seventh module turns attention to change management, highlighting the potential benefits and the inevitability of change in the workplace. Candidates perform a detailed investigation of the Change Cycle, while discussing how resistance or opposition to change can be counterproductive.
Module 8 - Managing Time
Several effective tools, tips and techniques for better time management are introduced in module eight, in which candidates discuss the damaging effects of procrastination. Helpful time-management strategies and methodologies are also discussed, including time management based on the SPIRIT model – Specific, Prizes, Individuals, Review, Inspiring, Time-Bound.
Module 9 - Managing Conflict
The ninth module discusses the importance of taking a confident and proactive approach to conflict management in the workplace. Additional concepts introduced include the assertiveness formula and the key to successful anger management, along with how confident conflict resolution skills can turn negative incidents into positives – both for the workforce and the wider business.
Module 10 - Risk Management
Concluding the course, module 10 provides a broad introduction to the basics of risk management. Candidates learn how to identify, classify and prioritise threats identified at a variety of levels, while also studying the benefits of proactive risk management and the potential consequences of adopting a passive approach to risk mitigation in the workplace.
