Our advanced Level 5 Interior Design Courses examine all aspects of both the industry and the profession. Course content is delivered across a series of nine engaging modules as follows:
Unit 1. Interior Design: An Overview
Module one provides candidates with a detailed overview of the interior design sector, along with the duties and responsibilities of the interior designer. An introduction to residential design basics is included, along with the importance of building strong relationships with vendors, clients and third-parties in general.
Unit 2. Key Principles of Interior Design
A series of key interior design principles are examined in module two. Candidates learn how to carefully consider Contrast, Balance, Scale, Proportion, Unity, Variety and Emphasis when designing interior spaces. Each principal is considered independently and as a contributor to a seamless final product.
Unit 3. Elements of Interior Design
The four most important elements of interior design are detailed and discussed in module three - Space, Colour, Patterns and Textures. Candidates learn the value of approaching every interior design project in a strategic and carefully-orchestrated manner.
Unit 4. The Elements of a Room
Module four turns attention to the various elements within a room that play a key part in its aesthetic appeal and functionality. Learners study the appropriate selection and integration of artwork, wallcoverings, lighting fixtures, general furniture and more.
Unit 5. Room by Room Design
Candidates are then introduced to the room-by-room approach to interior design, which considers each room as both a unique space and as part of a cohesive whole. The value and importance of careful planning is also discussed, along with considering the bigger picture when designing interior spaces.
Unit 6. Establishing Good Client-Designer Relationships
Module six guides candidates through the process of establishing and nurturing effective client-designer relationships. Techniques for identifying and anticipating clients’ requirements are discussed, along with the importance of establishing realistic expectations and exceeding the client’s expectations where possible.
Unit 7. Essentials of Planning
The interior design planning process is dissected and examined in module seven. Each step of the planning process is explored in depth, along with a series of essential tools, resources and methodologies for successful project planning.
Unit 8. Phases of a Project
Module eight provides a detailed overview of the component phases of a design project. Candidates study project planning, implementation and supervision, project completion, post-project analysis and the collection of feedback from clients.
Unit 9. Running an Interior Design Business
Concluding the course, module nine provides a crash-course introduction to entrepreneurship in interior design. Subtopics covered include the stages of business establishment, the importance of effective marketing, how to identify and influence a target audience, the challenges associated with new business establishment and more.
